A woman residing in Canberra, aged 26 years has recently been accused of attempting to allegedly murder or arranging a contract for the killing of her own parents using the dark web owing to the dark web murder attempt case.
Police have claimed that they had been tipped off by an international journalist from the United Kingdom back in October this year. The journalist informed them of a person who had allegedly made an online payment for dark web murder attempt case and shared all details regarding how to target the two alleged victims.
It has been alleged that the woman – name hidden for legal reasons – had agreed to pay $20,000 for the murders and had cleared a payment of $6000 in September. The woman had also been accused of breaking into her mother and father’s residence and stealing $15,000 days before she had allegedly agreed to the payments.
Officers had raided a home in Fadden and successfully seized computer equipment. The woman was also arrested and faced the ACT Magistrates Court today. She was charged with two counts two counts of inciting murder, two counts of attempted murder for dark web murder attempt case alongside burglary and theft.
She did not enter any pleas or apply for bail even.
ACT Policing Acting Sergeant Beth McMullen had said that the police will allege the woman, who had been motivated by financial gain and strongly believe that the website and the alleged agreement was a scam by itself.
“ACT Policing acted quickly to ensure there was no threat to the safety of the victims in this matter,” Ms McMullen said.
“This was a complex investigation due to the report originating overseas and being able to track and verify the dark web payment.
“The victims cooperated with police, and we don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to their safety.”
The woman remains in custody as of now and will be returning to the court later this month.
