Two Floridian individuals have been arrested in Inverness for conducting dark web counterfeit drug sales. They have been accused of some of the other charges as well. The arrest was followed after a yearlong investigation by the law enforcement agencies.
The law enforcement agencies that actively took part in the bust for dark web counterfeit drug sales were:
- Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO)
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS)
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
The Tactical Impact Unit (TIU) of CCSO had arrested both the accused. The accused duo had been identified as Benjamin Burdick aged 53 years and Catilynkyrie Burdick aged 29 years. Currently, they have been held in the Citrus County Detention Facility devoid of a bond.
On the 14th of October 2020, the law enforcement agencies had executed a search warrant at the location at 3766 South Susan Point in Inverness. As a part of the investigation, the feds had bought counterfeit Xanax from the alleged suspects on the dark web with cryptocurrency. This has resulted in the issuance of the search warrant.
The search at the stated location had brought into broad daylight various pieces of manufacturing, sales equipment and distribution. The seized materials included:
- A pill press
- Pill binder mixer
- USPS mail envelopes
- USPS shipping boxes
- An Accupost scale
- Vacuum sealer and bags
- A bag filled with 5 kg of pill binder
- A digital scale having several cups and bowls containing a white powdery residue
The detectives have uncovered various Ziploc as well as vacuum-sealed bags that possessed white coloured pills bearing stamp G7322 marketed as prescription Alprazolam along with the counterfeit Xanax pills. Additionally, they have discovered nearly 16,000 pills having a net weight of 15 lbs. These were pre-packaged in several bags of varied sizes. On further search of the location, the detectives uncovered and seized $143,095 US fiat currency that is believed to be the proceeds from the dark web counterfeit drug sales. Firearms were also discovered from the place.
